She's a Fighter

That is what we have been saying since we got our final test results. We got the call Friday morning & all of BB's chromosomes are normal - YEAH!!! Now we are in another stage of waiting but at least this one isn't as stressful, or at least its not for us. The way we look at it is if BB has a heart defect or is born with the cystic hygroma (which is possible) either of these can be corrected. We are so thankful for all the prayers, thoughts & kind words on BB's behalf. Her parents to be are very grateful.

My next appointments will be May 5th with my regular OB & May 14th with the Maternal & Fetal specialist.

Bronchitis again

Yep your heard that right, again. Wasn't it just a few months ago I had this, yes right again. We are hoping I will not be out of work for a week again this time with this round. I don't know why I can't just have a cold like every other regular person, it always turns into bronchitis if it stays around longer than a week. The doctor gave me a Z-Pac (one of the few antibiotics a pregnant woman can take) & I just took a long nap so I should be good for a while. Lets pray this works so I don't have to go back to see him again next week.

BB News & Tests

Many of you are probably unaware that I had the 1st trimester screening last Friday & the Maternal & Fetal Medicine where I got to see the baby moving its arms, legs & very strong heartbeat. Then the doctor came in to check the baby & found something on the ultra sound he didn't like. Its call a Cystic Hygroma & most of the time indicates a chromosome abnormality with the baby. He went on to explain all the things it could be & of course with me in shock all I could do was cry. Thankfully I didn't go to this appointment alone, but Chris was on a golfing trip with some guys from church so my mother & oldest sister went with me. I am so glad they were there.

He went on to explain there was a 50% chance of serious chromosome problems & listed some of the other things it could be as well. The doctor also told us the Cystic Hygroma can go away on its own or it can be an indication of a heart defect. He then told me I was now considered a high risk pregnancy & of course more tears began to fall. He then shared my options with us. We could do nothing & just watch the baby to see what happens, have a CVS test the following week or do an amnio in 4-5 weeks.

So we all left the doctors appointment in shock & very scared of what we may have to face in the future with BB. I of course didn't return to work that day & called Chris to share the bad news. Mama & I ended up taking a trip to meet Chris & our preacher 1/2 way between Charlotte & Cheraw so he could come home. Chris was already a little upset that he was missing an ultra sound to play golf, but he never gets to play & I knew he would have a great time so I told him to please go, then we get this news.

After discussing things over, we quickly decided we couldn't wait until Oct to see if BB would be okay, so we decided I would have the CVS. I called the nurse & made an appointment for this past Tuesday morning. My CVS test had to be done abdominally since the baby wasn't turned properly & it was pretty painful but I made it through the test. After the test I was pretty sore, had a low grade fever (which is normal) & they sent me home to rest.

Our preliminary test results would be back in 2 days & it would reveal 5 major chromosome abnormalities. We got the call from the nurse late yesterday afternoon & we are very pleased to say the baby is negative for Trisomy 13, 18, 21 (Downs Syndrome), X & Y. I am sure people heard our family's screams & cry of relief. Now we are still waiting on the full panel results in 10-12 days which will reveal all chromosome abnormalities. Another test they did for us was the gender & BB is... A GIRL!!! We are really excited to be having a girl & its a known medical fact that girls are strong than boys, so this plays in our favor. She's fighter, keep fighting BB.

Other than the last week of stress & wondering I feel okay, except for being sick. I have an appointment at 10:45 with my GP & hopefully he can help me out.

Allergies & Pregnancy

Well I have always heard that being sick & pregnant at the same time is no fun & now I am starting to believe it. I started with a cough last Friday & it has progressed to a sore throat & congestion most likely brought on by allergies the weather (it has been cold, hot & then cold again). I plan to go by the drug store today & pick something up for the congestion & sinus pressure. I already have pregnancy approved cough syrup at home that I used over the weekend to help me sleep. Hopefully it will go away soon so I don't have to go to the doctor.

Highpoint Furniture Market

We had a great time yesterday at Market (yes it was in HIghpoint, NC not Hickory like I originally stated.) We actually got to meet Ty Pennington, that was so cool. He is just as cute in person as he is on TV. Now he wasn't quite as hyper but his personality was still the same only toned down a bit. I really think I could have stayed there all day & just watched him interact with everyone - yes I was a little star struck but I have never experienced this before. Notice Vicki's shirt (she is to the left of Ty) he told her he really liked it & she was thrilled.

We also saw Edward from "Trading Spaces" at Market too. We didn't talk to him, but our editor got an interview with him - how cool.

Spreading the News

Okay I know many of you have been wondering how the fertility treatments turned out & I said I would reveal the results many weeks ago, but I just couldn't. Of course that doesn't mean the news is bad because it certainly is not. Chris & I are very happy to share that we are pregnant & BB (Baby Byrd) is due Oct. 30th. I was just in so much shock & disbelief that after all this time we could actually be pregnant that it took me seeing the first ultra sound & hearing the heart beat before I could relax.

I had my 1st OB doctor's appointment last Thursday & he said everything looked fine. I go this Friday for my 2nd ultra sound & the 1st trimester screening tests. We went yesterday & bought some maternity clothes, although I know its pretty early but most of my pants are already too small. I haven't gained a lot of weight yet but I guess it has all redistributed differently, lucky me. I had a great time shopping though, although I have been told most women don't enjoy wearing maternity clothes I am really looking forward to it.

I also must admit we wanted to share this news with our grandparents before we made it public, which we did over the weekend. Of course our immediate family & close friends have known for several weeks, we couldn't keep this a total secret. So needless to say our families are very excited to have some good news to share & we look forward to creating happy memories in the future.
