We Did It!!!

Last night Emma slept in her own room in her crib for the first time & she did great. I think I told you my lovely husband has been holding out on putting her in her crib. He was really afraid that something would happen to her in the middle of the night & we would never know. I finally talked him into trying it out. I only had to get up once to give her her paci & she wasn't even really crying just restless & she went right back to sleep.
I have been trying to get her to nap in her crib for several weeks now & it hasn't been very successful. When I put her down in the crib she after rocking her to sleep she usually wakes up shortly after I leave the room or she will only stay asleep for 30 minutes at a time. I have tried to get her to cry herself back to sleep & that has only worked 2 or 3 times. Right now the only way she will nap successfully is in her swing or in the car but I am going to continue trying her crib, I know she will get used to it eventually especially since she did so well last night.

Zoo Trip

Last weekend we went to the NC Zoo with a group from church & had a great time. Now I know Emma is way too young to enjoy it or to even know much of what is going on, but she did great & we all had a great time.
Here are some of my favorite shots from the day. By the way, my lovely husband is the photographer, not me & he really got some good ones.
This is our precious little Emma with her cute sun hat on & apparently she is in the middle of babbling.

I was really expecting the elepants to be gray, but these were some dirty ones.

Isn't he handsome.

This polar bear was the biggest ham. It was almost as if he was posing for the picture. Chris got several of him in different positions but his one is my favorite.

This sea lion basked in the sun for the longest time, he was cracking us up.

Happy Easter

Today we went to church in Charlotte to see my grandmother, Gram, Emma's great grandmother, instead of our usual trip to the beach. In years past we have gone to the beach for the Easter weekend but since Chris didn't have any days off we decided to stay in town & visit Gram. It was actually the first time we have gone to church with Gram since Emma was born so there were many introductions. Here are some the the pictures we took after services were over.

Emma this morning before we went to church.

All 4 cousins together, Kaylee holding Morgan who will be 7 months old tomorrow & Caroline with Emma.

This is of course me & my sister Beverly with the babies.

5 months old

Emma is 5 months old today & seems to be learning new things every day. This morning she put her feet in her mouth for the first time & man was she proud of herself. We also put her in the walker over the weekend for the first time & she seems to enjoy it. We were a little hesitant to try the walker since we are not suppose to lift her/pick her up under her arms for 3 more weeks. That is one of the few restrictions she has after her surgery & let me tell you its the hardest one to live with, but we are managing.

This is a picture Chris got of Emma playing last night.

Another Birthday

Sunday was my 37th birthday & its really hard for me to believe another year has come & gone. Man a lot of things have happened in the last year. Believe it or not, I almost forgot about my birthday all together. We were originally going to be in Charleston for Emma's surgery on my birthday so I didn't really realize my birthday was Sunday until my oldest sister asked me what I wanted to do to celebrate it. We haven't really celebrated it yet with my family yet, but Chris' parents & grandmother came over Saturday night for mine & his mom's birthday (hers is 26th). Regardless Sunday was a pretty good day.

Too Pooped to Blog

Not only have I been pooped but Emma has kept me pretty busy. She finally became more like herself on Monday but being at the hospital has definitely left its mark. She is very cautious of anymore other than myself or Chris, she is sleeping lighter & if she wakes up & not sure of where she is, she screams.
Today we went to the pediatrician for a weight check & she gained 7 ounces in a week. She is now a whopping 11 lbs, 13 oz & Dr. K was pleased. Dr. K would like to see Emma eat more, right now she is averaging 18 oz a day of the 27 calorie mixed formula & she is hoping for something closer to 24 oz a day. Ironically she still has 2 feeding left today & she should take in over 20 ounces. I told Emma earlier if she eats really good the rest of the night that tomorrow we would go get her a prize.
Dr. K mentioned sending Emma to see a GI doctor to see if they had any suggestions or could help her eat any better, so we may be going to him them soon. She still has some feedings that are really hard with fighting & crying, yesterday every feeding was bad. Her volume yesterday was good but it took her 45 minutes or so to eat 3 oz. & we were hoping we were done with all the fighting.
One more milestone, Emma slept in her own bed in her room today during her nap. Yes, believe it or not that is the first time she has ever slept in her room. We have been too scared to have her in another room at night + she still fits in her bassinet since she is under weight. I have been trying to talk her Daddy into letting her start sleeping in her room now but he still wants her with us. We are still waking her up every 4 hours at night to feed & that does make it much easier but I think she would be more comfortable in a big bed. Maybe Daddy will change his mind soon.
